NESE BRINGS THE GIN GAME TO NEW LONDON
An American tour de force,
The Gin Game launches NESE's second season of bringing
Shakespeare and the best of the classics to scenic New Hampshire each summer. Winner of
the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Award nominations, including Best Play,
The Gin Game was an immediate hit when it opened on Broadway with Jessica Tandy
and Hume Cronyn in the leading roles, and it went on to become a stunning success. A
tragi-comedy in two acts, the play centers on the lives, past and present, of two retirement
home residents engaged in a protracted game of cards. Kathleen Huber and John Goodlin will
star in NESE's production, which will be directed by William Michael Maher...Production staff
includes Robina D'Arcy-Fox, who is designing the costumes. Additional production staff includes
Brandy Bitzer (lighting/set designer) and Jacqueline McCann (stage manager).

BETTING ON GIN GAME
A lot is riding on
The Gin Game, and NESE has put together a top-flight team...
By only using professional actors and concentrating on classic repertory, the ensemble plans to
distinguish itself from other theatrical companies in New Hampshire... NESE is the brainchild of
artistic director John Goodlin, an experienced actor who is starring in
The Gin Game... Goodlin's
co-star is Kathleen Huber, an actress from New York City with a long track record...
The director is William Maher, a resident of New York who has summered in New London since 1999.
Maher is a veteran director and producer. He has worked on and off Broadway, and produced many
events for corporations and television - including a Super Bowl half-time show... Maher has enjoyed
his work on
The Gin Game, thanks to the experience of his cast. "When you have two skilled
actors, you want to let them play, you need to let them explore and grow, and really let them run."
... Given the bloodlines of the play and those involved,
The Gin Game should be a top-quality
production.
